Smoky Mac n' Cheeze Recipe - Comfort Food with a Vegan Twist

This American favorite has spanned so many generations and appetites; isn't it time for a 21st-century version done in a proper #WFPB style.  That is what this week's recipe is all about! 

We're taking your classic Macaroni and Cheese and updating it to a healthy vegan entree with No Allergens. This recipe has reduced calories significantly by using NexVeg low-fat cheezy sauce, and drives flavor and protein up with natural wood-smoked flavor from our plant pure NexVeg™ meat alternative crumble. 

It's creamy, it's smoky, it's a delicious dish that will be sure to impress on your menu or around your dinner table.

Smoky Mac N' Cheeze Recipe

Servings: 4 

Prep time: 5 minutes

Total time: 15 minutes


  • 16 oz. macaroni, fully cooked
  • 1 - 4 oz NexVeg Smoky Southwest patty
  • 3.6 oz. NexVeg Instant Vegan Cheeze Sauce Powder 
  • 1 3/4 cup boiling water (yields >16 oz cheeze sauce)
  • 2 tsp. garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 tsp. ground mustard 
  • 1/2 tsp. salt 


  1. Heat a sauté pan over medium heat, spray lightly with oil, and add Nexveg patty. Cook the patty for 2 minutes on each side. Begin to chop the patty with your spatula into small pieces until it resembles a crumble and is crispy. Remove from heat and set aside.

  2. While the macaroni is cooking, in a high speed blender add boiling water and vegan cheese powder. Cover, and blend  for 2 minutes on high speed. Add in mustard, garlic, and salt. Blend for an additional 15 seconds until well combined.

  3. Add sauce to the macaroni pot and stir until fully coated. Spoon a cup of cooked macaroni to a bowl and top with the smoky southwest crumble.
